Former Chelsea and Fulham manager Campbell dies at 78


Former Chelsea manager Bobby Campbell has died aged 78.

Campbell managed the Stamford Bridge club from 1988 to 1991, guiding them to promotion to the top flight in 1989, following their relegation to Division Two the previous season.

He also managed Fulham and Portsmouth and had coaching stints at Arsenal, Aldershot and QPR, and in Kuwait.

Born in Liverpool, his playing career took in spells with Liverpool, Portsmouth and Aldershot.


"Chelsea Football Club is greatly saddened to announce the passing of our former manager," a Blues statement read.

"All at the club send our deepest condolences to Bobby's family and friends and our players will wear black armbands in his memory at today's game at Stoke.

"Chelsea was very close to Bobby Campbell's heart and he will always be close to ours."
