Plates Sell For $100,000 At Auction

A pair of licence plates from the car that drove John F Kennedy when he was killed have sold at auction for $100,000 (£66,000).

The plates had been discarded when the limousine was sent for upgrades after President Kennedy was shot dead in Dallas, Texas in November 1963.
The company's owner retrieved them and passed them on to his daughter.

The plates, bearing number GG-300, had been expected to raise close to $40,000 at the auction in Dallas.
"I was aware of their significance," said Jane Walker, who inherited the plates and kept them in a kitchen drawer.

"On occasion, I would take them out and show to friends."

The auction company said the plates were bought by a "high-end Kennedy collector" who wanted to remain anonymous.

Also sold was a menu from the last dinner served on the Titanic before it sank. The menu fetched $118,750.
Some diners on the luxury cruise liner were served oysters, roast duckling and peaches in chartreuse jelly.

Tragedy as 9-year-old girl is mauled to death by a pit bull

Police say nine-year-old girl was visiting a home on Holland Avenue in Elmont around 10.30am Sunday for a playdate with two girls when she was attacked by a pit bull. Witnesses say the dog latched onto her neck, and head, and shook her like a rag doll.

"An Angel on Earth" - that is how family and friends will remember the 9-year-old girl who was mauled to death by a pit bull in the backyard of a home in Elmont on Sunday. "I wish I could turn back time - too sweet to go," says family friend Stacie Case.
"A woman in the house attempted to pull the pit bull off of her. She could not, and called 911," said Detective Michael Bitsko of the Nassau County Police Department.
"She tried with a broom - too weak, too scared," said neighbor Novelette Wilson.
By the time police arrived, Eyewitness News is told that two officers ran to the back, while one went through the house to the rear door.
"The pit bull got distracted and charge at the officer," adds Detective Bisko.
The officer fired, killing the dog, giving the other officers time to get to the girl.
The victim was rushed to Franklin Hospital/LIJ, but surgeons could not mend what the dog had done. She was pronounced dead a few hours later.
"It's so hard, I'm taking it so hard," says Case.
Meanwhile, the dog's owner, 29-year-old Carlyle Arnold was arrested at the scene, on a separate charge of violating an order of protection.
Officials do not believe he was home at the time of the attack. It's not clear if he could have pulled the dog off in time.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the child, or released an explanation as to why the dog turned so violent.

Fifa Under-17 World Cup 2015 final: Nigeria vs Mali Today

Nigeria vs Mali Today

Nigeria saw off Mexico in the FIFA U-17 World Cup Semi Final to make second successive trip to the final.

It will also be a second all-Africa final at the Fifa Under-17 World Cup after Nigeria edged out Ghana 1-0 in the final of the 1993 edition in Japan where a Wilson Oruma header put the Starlets to the sword.

Four time champions Nigeria will look to make it a fifth trophy at under-17 level and also a record eight appearances in the final of the competition.

Mali, who are the African champions at this level will hope to make it their first Fifa Under-17 World Cup title in their history.

Snippets:

* Last time an all-African final took place was 22 years ago at Japan 1993. Nigeria beat Ghana to win the trophy

* Nigeria's total goal tally at Chile 2015 is 21 goals leading to the final while Mali have scored 12 goals.

*Top scorer for the Nigeria side is Victor Osimhen with nine goals while Sidiki Maiga leads Mali’s goalscorers with three goals.

*Nigeria has appeared in eight finals of the Fifa Under-17 World Cup while Mali will be making their first ever appearance in the final in only their fourth Fifa Under-17 World Cup.

*The Golden Eaglets have attempted 199 shots at goal and scored 21 goals as against Mali's 132 attempts at goal with 12 goals to boot.

Match background:

Nigeria (below) started the competition with a bang, winning their first two games but then lost to Croatia in the last group game. Despite that loss, the Eaglets topped Group A and were pitted against the Young Joeys of Australia whom they walloped 6-0 in the Round of 16.

Brazil fell 3-0 in the quarter-finals before the entertaining 4-2 win over Mexico set up the clash with Mali’s Les Aiglonettes on Sunday.

Mali started the tournament with a goalless draw against Belgium but followed it up with wins against Ecuador and Honduras to pick a ticket to the Round of 16.

Les Aiglonettes beat Korea DPR 3-0 in that round before edging out Croatia 1-0 in the last eight to set up a rematch with Belgium.

Mali came from a goal down to beat Belgium 3-1 with goals from Boubacar Traore, Sidiki Maiga and Sekou Koita to book a date with reigning champions Nigeria.

Players to watch:

Mali: Aly Malle is the main man in attack for Mali despite Sidiki Maiga scoring a goal more than the 16-year-old attacker

He makes most of the plays for his team and alongside skipper Abdoul Dante, they are the leaders of this Mali side (below) looking to make history.

Nigeria: Samuel Chukwueze has been performing admirably well under the radar as Victor Osimhen kept getting all the plaudits.

The midfielder, who loves to play through the channels, has provided seven assists thus far and scored twice to cement his place as one of starters for Emmanuel Amuneke.

Victor Osimhen will be the man Amuneke will look to for the goals to win Sunday’s game against Mali.

The tall striker has scored in all the matches the Eaglets have played at the tournament, amassing a record-equalling nine goals.

Man Details How Thief Hypnotised Him And Stole Cash And Clothes

A 38-year-old-man, Chijioke Onwunbiko,  has been docked at an Ikeja Magistrate Court sitting at Ogba, Agege, Lagos for allegedly stealing N10,000 from one Chigozie Ali (15).
The incident allegedly occurred on August 18, 2015 at about 9.00hrs at Orile Agbado.

According to the prosecution, the suspect allegedly stole the money from his victim; a boy, who was going to sell some wares for his elder brother in a nearby market,  an offence punishable under Section 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, Nigeria, 2011.
Asked whether they would like to settle the matter amicably, the suspect said he was prepared to return the boy’s N10,000 to him, an offer which the complainant accepted before the court.

The suspect was granted bail in the sum of N5,000 with one surety in like sum.
It was gathered that the suspect approached the little boy in Sango area of Ogun State, and asked him for road direction and that, as he opened his mouth to tell him that he didn’t know the place, his (the boy’s) memory went blank and the next place he found himself was Kola in Alagbado area of Lagos. An acquaintance, who was surprised to see him in the area, was said to have asked him where he was going “It was there and then that my eyes cleared”, recalled the boy.

The complainant further explained that the accused dispossessed him of everything he had on him, including the clothes he was going to the market to sell as well as N10,000 cash. He added that the suspect ran out of luck two months later, when he saw him at Alaako area of Lagos and was able to identify him as the person who dispossessed him of his wares and N10,000 cash after asking for road direction two months earlier.

He added that when he told  his elder brother that he had seen the man who robbed him on August 18, the latter took him to the police station where he lodged a  complaint which led to the arrest of the suspect.

British heavyweight boxer, Tyson Fury compares Homosexuality and abortion to paedophilia

British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury has compared homosexuality and abortion to paedophilia in what some deem vile and offensive. Fury, who is due to fight Wladimir Klitschko on November 28 for the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles, claimed that legalising pedophilia was the same as legalising homosexuality and abortion.

The 27-year-old also said that he was not scared of being accused of homophobia as his religious beliefs as a Christian confirmed for him that being gay is a sin...

"There are only three things that need to be accomplished before the devil comes home," Fury said.
"One of them is homosexuality being legal in countries, one of them is abortion and the other is paedophilia. Who would have thought in the 50s and 60s that those first two would be legalised?
"When I say paedophiles could be made legal, it sounds crazy. But if I had said to you about the first two being made legal in the 50s, I would have been looked upon as a crazy man."

It is not the first time Fury has landed himself in hot water with reprehensible comments. In 2013 he was fined £3,000 by the British Boxing Board of Control after he said fighters David Price and Tony Bellew were "gay lovers"

Teenager found alive 50 hours after Pakistan factory collapse

Rescuers in Pakistan have pulled a teenage boy alive from the rubble of a collapsed factory near Lahore 50 hours after the structure toppled, officials said on Saturday. The teenager had been trapped for more than two days after the collapse and his family, thinking him dead, had already identified and buried another recovered body they believed to be his.

"An 18-year-old Muhammad Shahid was also evacuated alive 50 hours after the building collapsed by the blessing of God," Muhammad Usman, a top administration official in Lahore, told AFP.
The four-storey Rajput Polyester polythene bag factory came crashing down on Wednesday evening, and at least 37 bodies have so far been recovered from the wreckage.
Shahid's discovery ignited emotional scenes at the site as workers chanted "Allah-O-Akbar (God is great)" and encouraged each other to boost morale.

The news was a welcome surprise to his family who had mistakenly identified the dead body of another boy earlier this week as Shahid and buried the remains in their ancestral town of Kabirwala, some 265 kilometres (164 miles) from Lahore.

Officials have said at least 150 people were in the factory when it came down and it was unclear how many, dead or alive, may still be trapped.

Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the factory may have suffered structural damage in the October 26 quake, which killed almost 400 people across Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Provincial labour minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar said that an enquiry into the collapse "is being conducted and we will probe all angles", with a report to be submitted within two weeks.

At least 24 people died last year when a mosque collapsed in the same city, while more than 200 people lost their lives, mostly due to collapsed roofs, following torrential rain and flooding in 2014.

Girl's allergy to water is so extreme even a tear rolling down her cheek leaves her in agony

17 year old Niah Selway is in pain every day, yet she dare not cry. She is so allergic to water that even her own tears make her skin erupt in excruciating hives.
She is one of only 35 people in the world to suffer from aquagenic urticarial.
Niah said:
“Living with it is a nightmare. When water comes into contact with my skin it feels like it’s burning. I’m in a lot of pain and there’s nothing anyone can do.”
The distressing symptoms began when she was five but no one could work out the cause.
So, just like her pals, she went swimming, would get caught in rain and splashed in puddles, never suspecting it was the water that triggered her painful rash.

But as she got older Niah decided to investigate online. She said:
“I found a few stories. One was a girl in America who suffers from the same thing and I was like, ‘Wow, finally I’ve found a name for it’.”
A dermatologist diagnosed aquagenic urticaria but there is no cure.
Niah, who can drink water pain-free, explained: “I’m trying different strengths of antihistamine to see if they can help the level of my reaction but they won’t ever stop it.”
So the plucky business student from Hastings, East Sussex, accepts she must live with her discomfort.
When she showers, Niah has to time her soak just right to make it as pain-free as possible. “I can be in there for five minutes before it starts happening,” she said.
“But if I were to get out straight away it would get worse so I have to stay in the shower until it stops.
"Even though water makes me have the reaction it’s the water that soothes it as well. I can never tell how long I’ll be in the shower because it depends on the level of my reaction.
“When I take off make-up with baby wipes and use toner and moisturiser it really stings. My face burns for up to half-an-hour but I have to do it.”
Boyfriend Hussain hates to see Niah suffer. She said: “It’s really horrible for him because I just need to be left alone.”
And the cruel allergy means that if it all gets too much, just one tear makes the pain even worse.
Niah sighed: “It will start to sting and feel really sore and difficult to touch.”
